Today was a pretty great day!  I was officially a Mom and couldn't remember my life without you in it already.  You and I got lots of time to bond. 

Your dad left us at the hospital to go get you a crib mattress, something we were going to do after the doctors appointment that turned into your birthday.  Both you and I got a bath.

I put you in my favorite jammies that your grandma had gotten you.  Your Dad brought your swing from home and you happily slept in it for a little while.

and Grandma came back for a visit as did your Uncle David, Aunt Donna, Aunt Darsie and Uncle Jason, your cousins McKenna and Tanner.

That night, your dad told me to get some rest, he would watch you.  It did not go very well.  We both soon realized that you were not going to sleep on your own and after your dad continuously woke me up trying to get you to sleep, I again put you in bed with me and we all slept very well after that.

The day you were born was, by far, the best day of my life.  It was also a very scary day for both your dad and myself.  Here is your birth story summed up.

I had just gone to the doctors for a check (May 12, 20011), you were 8 days late at the time (due May 4th).   I had an ultrasound to check on you and you looked pretty good, but there wasn't much fluid ,which concerned the doctor, so she sent us over to the birthing center.  The nurses over there confirmed what the doctor saw and strongly encouraged us to stay and be induced.  I have to be honest, my sweet boy, I was so scared.  I was not ready to be a Mom just yet.  I wanted to cry.  I had been really, really sick the week before and all I could think about was going home and snuggling up with our kitty, Penny, and waiting to go into labor naturally, like how I thought it was supposed to be.  Your dad, on the other hand really wanted to stay.  I could see it in his eyes that he didn't want to go anywhere.  So we stayed and for the next 18 hours, I was poked and prodded, and moved over a million times because your little heart rate just was not cooperating.  They tried to induce me a few times, but it never lasted long.  Neither one of us was handing labor very well.  Contractions were coming whenever they wanted to, sometimes spiking really fast and lasting a several minutes.  Toward the end I started having really bad back pain (you had rolled over).  Finally at around 7:30AM on Friday, May 13, 2011, your dad and I were in the bathroom for what felt like the millionth time.  I broke down crying.  I just couldn't go through another minute of this.  I was not dialating (I had beed forced to a 4 with the foley bulb).  We decided it was time to talk to the doctor about a C-section.  We were getting no where and the night had been really rough on the three of us, physically and emotionally.  She agreed a C-Section was in every ones best interest and so we all started getting ready. 

I was taken back and when the doctor came in your little heart rate dropped and just was not recovering.  Everything got really scary for me then.  The doctor asked if I could feel anything and as soon as I said no, she called the incision time.  I keep calling for your dad over and over.  Felt the doctors pulling and pushing on my stomach.  I didn't even know when you were born.  I was crying and a nurse came over to me.  Told me to look to my left and there you were.  I could just see a little bit of you because they had the special nurses in there in case you had trouble, but I was told you were doing well.  You were so dirty but my goodness if you weren't the most beautiful thing I had ever seen!

 You weren't crying though and that really scared me, but finally you did and it was the most wonderful sound I have ever heard.  I was in love with you the moment I saw you.  It really was that simple, my son.  I asked again for your father and finally someone went to get him.  When your dad came in, he confessed to me later, that he wasn't sure if he should come see me or go see you.  He came to see me and I immediately asked if he saw you.  I wanted him to go get you so I could see you up close and he did just that.  Your dad and some nurses took you back to our room while they cleaned me up, but I wanted so bad to hold you.  When I finally got back to our room, your Grandma and Papa were there, but I told your dad I wanted to hold you first.  Finally I got to hold you.

  You were so very little and just perfect.  I never, ever wanted to let you go, and I didn't for a very long time, but you were already very popular and we had a lot of visitors!  Your Daddy had to hold you again.

After you were born your dad and I were so very tired and how we got through the day is beyond me.  Neither one of us remember how our first night in the hospital went because we were so tired.  I am assuming you slept with me because I know you never spent one second in that cold plastic "bed" you were supposed to sleep in!  Welcome to our family Casey James.

  You have no idea how long we have waited for you and just how worth that wait has been to have you here with us now.
